Mr. Rothkopf is also a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace where he researched and wrote “Running the World:  The Inside Story of the National Security Council and the Architects of American Power”.  Additionally, at Carnegie Mr. Rothkopf chairs the Carnegie Economic Strategy Roundtable as well as studies focusing on America’s role in the world.  Mr. Rothkopf is also a member of the advisory board of the U.S. Institute of Peace and of the Johns Hopkins/Bloomberg School of Public Health.

 

Prior to the establishment of The Rothkopf Group, Mr. Rothkopf was chairman, ceo and co-founder of Intellibridge Corporation, a leading provider of international analysis and open-source intelligence for the U.S. national security community and selected corporations. Before founding Intellibridge, Mr. Rothkopf was managing director of Kissinger Associates, the international advisory firm founded and chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger. 

 

Immediately previous to joining Kissinger Associates, Mr. Rothkopf served as Acting U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade.  In this capacity, Mr. Rothkopf directed the 2400 employees of the International Trade Administration including the U.S. Commercial Service, the International Economic Policy Bureau, the Bureau of Import Administration and the Bureau of Trade Development.  He joined the Clinton Administration in 1993 as Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Policy Development.  During his tenure, Mr. Rothkopf chaired the Administration's inter-agency Big Emerging Markets Initiative, the widely-hailed program to establish coordinated policies effecting U.S. relations with the world's fastest growing markets including China, the ASEAN countries, Korea, India, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa, Turkey and Poland.  Additionally, Mr. Rothkopf was appointed by the White House as the Coordinator of the Haiti Economic Recovery Initiative following the U.S.' intervention in that country.

 

Before joining the Clinton Administration, Mr. Rothkopf was co-founder, chairman and chief executive of International Media Partners, Inc., publishers of CEO Magazine, Emerging Markets newspapers and organizers of the CEO Institutes, one of the world's leading chief executive membership organizations.  The firm was sold to Europe's Euromoney Publications shortly after Mr. Rothkopf entered the government.  Previously, Mr. Rothkopf served as Publisher of Special Publications at Institutional Investor, Inc. where he also held positions as Director of Marketing and as a Managing Editor.  He had an active career in the media prior to that, including serving as co-creator and coordinating producer of the Emmy Award-winning OMNI television series starring Peter Ustinov. Additionally, he was executive producer of public broadcasting's "Flashpoint."

 

Mr. Rothkopf is a frequently cited commentator in leading publications and has appeared as a guest addressing a wide variety of foreign policy issues on most major English-language broadcast networks worldwide. He is the author of over 150 articles on international economic, political and security themes and has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the Miami Herald, the Philadelphia Inquirer and other leading newspapers.  He has also written for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, International Economy, the Journal of International Affairs and a variety of other magazines. He is the author, co-author, co-editor and contributor to a variety of books including most recently, "The Global Century: Globalization and National Security" (National Defense University), "Cuba: The Contours of Change" (Lynn Rienner Publishers), "The Price of Peace: Emergency Economic Intervention and U.S. Foreign Policy" (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace), “The Common Market: Uniting the European Community” (Franklin Watts) and "The Big Emerging Markets" (Bernan Press).   Mr. Rothkopf was, for six years, an adjunct professor of international affairs at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.

 

He has also served as a senior advisor to the director general of the United National Industrial Development Organization and on the board of directors of the U.S. Committee on NATO.  He is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and is also a frequent senior advisor to the World Economic Forum.  He is currently participating in or has participated in a variety of task forces and study groups with the CFR, the Carnegie Endowment, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Inter-American Dialogue, the Council of the Americas, the National Defense University and Center for Naval Analysis.  In addition to teaching at Columbia and regular speaking appearances, Mr. Rothkopf has taught or lectured at many venues including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, New York University, Tufts University, Indiana University, the U.S. Naval Academy, the National Defense University, and the Intelligence Fellows Program sponsored by the Director of Central Intelligence. 

 

Mr. Rothkopf lives in Bethesda, Maryland with his family.
